Overview of the latest Pajero Sport 2022-2023: appearance, interior, specifications, equipment, options, security systems.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport differs from its predecessor in a deeply redesigned interior and exterior. At the same time, the Japanese model retained a frame chassis with proprietary all-wheel drive that supports several driving modes. This combination and lower prices starting at 2.93 million rubles make the Pajero Sport a more attractive car than the Kia Mohave or Ford Explorer. The Japanese model is offered in Russia with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel and a 3-liter gasoline “aspirated.”
Specifications
The 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport received a new body, which, judging by the published photos, really gives the car a more sporty appearance. At the same time, the manufacturer revised the configuration and prices, making the SUV more convenient to use. However, the technical characteristics of the Japanese model remained unchanged. This decision is probably because both engines available on the Russian market are highly reliable and have good fuel efficiency.
As standard, Pajero Sport is equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive, combined with a transfer case, supplemented by a reduction gear. This transmission supports several driving modes, automatically adapting to specific road conditions. Also, the Japanese SUV is combined with lockable differentials that improve the vehicle’s cross-country ability. The Pajero Sport is based on a front double-wishbone suspension and a trailing arm rear-dependent design. In a circle, the Japanese model has disc brakes and anti-roll bars.
The Japanese SUV in basic versions accelerates to 100 km / h in 11.4 seconds, consuming an average of up to 7.4 liters of fuel. The car comes with a 3-liter naturally aspirated engine that develops no more than 209 hp for a surcharge. Power and 279 N * m of traction moment. In combination with the same “automatic,” this unit consumes 10.9 liters of gasoline and provides acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.7 seconds.
The total length of the Japanese SUV is 4825 mm, width – 1815 mm, height – 1835 mm. The wheelbase is 2800 mm, and the ground clearance reaches 218 mm.
Invite
The standard Japanese model, estimated at a minimum of 2.93 million rubles, is equipped with a power steering and 18-inch rims. You can only find a mechanical parking brake and halogen head optics in the starting version. But behind the SUV placed LED lights. For comfort in the basic version of Pajero Sport, they are responsible for:
- Stereo system with six speakers
- Climate control
- Constant speed hold system
- Tire pressure control indicators
- Electric heating of the front seats
- Keyless access
- Multifunction steering wheel with leather trim
- Engine start button
- Electric exterior mirrors with heating and tailgate.
As standard, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is equipped with only front airbags. There is also a full-size spare wheel, a stiffener in the side doors, anti-lock brakes, electronic stabilization control, and wheel slip prevention in the initial version. In addition, by default, the SUV is also equipped with an assistant when moving up the slope.
Intensity
The second piece of equipment on the list costs 3.2 million rubles. It complements the basic one by:
- A full-fledged multimedia complex with support for mobile technology
- 8-inch touch screen
- Two-zone climate control
- Assistant when driving down the slope
- Transmission that supports several modes of movement
- Side curtains and airbags
- Knee airbag located opposite the driver’s seat.
Electric heating is available to the steering wheel and second-row seats in this configuration. Instead of a mechanical parking brake, an electric one appears, complemented by an automatic vehicle hold function. Externally, the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in this version stands out due to the LED headlights, supplemented by a light sensor. And the wipers are combined with a rain sensor.
Instyle
The penultimate equipment costs 3.52 million rubles in Russia. It complements the previous ones with an 8-inch display of the instrument panel, leather-trimmed seats, and power front seats. In this configuration, several parking sensors are installed front and rear.
Security
Pajero Sport has successfully passed several crash tests, which showed that the SUV has a high level of passive safety. It is facilitated by a reinforced frame structure and additional stiffeners in the side doors, which also reduce the impact force in collisions. However, compared to direct competitors, the Japanese model does not have a rich set of onboard electronics responsible for safety. But this disadvantage is partially leveled by the power structure.
Handling and off-road ability
Pajero Sport is more focused on off-road operations than in the city. The suspension of the Japanese model does not always cope well with bumps when driving at medium speeds. Specific concerns are caused by the stabilization of the body since during sharp maneuvers, the car skids slightly. Also, the Japanese SUV has too high ground clearance. This feature is an advantage off-road. But because of this clearance, the Japanese model has a too high center of gravity, which negatively affects the car’s stability. But Pajero Sport offers an excellent hydraulic steering mechanism that provides good responsiveness.
The Japanese model performs better in off-road conditions. All-wheel-drive, low gear, and locking differentials allow you to pass where, for example, the direct competitor Pajero Sport Kia Mohave gets stuck. The Japanese model confidently climbs a snow-covered mountain. The wheels do not get stuck thanks to the built-in traction control system and electronics that automatically redistribute torque. In addition, the Pajero Sport is equipped with a high-torque engine that allows you to go on rutted roads with deep ruts.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages of the Japanese model are the following:
- Reliable engines, transmission, and suspension
- Strong power structure providing a high level of passive safety
- Relatively low fuel consumption for cars of this class
- Excellent cross-country ability in any conditions
- The presence of a transmission that automatically adjusts to current road conditions.
Among the shortcomings of the Japanese SUV are:
- Few options compared to direct competitors;
- Not suitable for continuous use in the city;
- Uncomfortable lounge.
Design
As part of the latest restyling, Pajero Sport has changed quite a lot, both externally and internally. The most notable improvements occurred on the front of the body. A new head optics appeared here, which became noticeably narrower. The reduction in its dimensions is due to the introduction of two rectangular niches with additional lights into the side parts of the front bumper. After restyling, the Japanese model retained the branded metal trims that frame the grille on the sides. The latter, as before, is almost wholly covered with wide lamellas.
Competitors
SUV competitors include the following models:
